      <image:title>HOME - “When in Doubt, Choose Change”</image:title>
<image:caption>Lily Leung If you have found yourself here it is because you are wanting to make a change in your life and/or your relationships. Maybe you have been being experiencing pain, are feeling overwhelmed at work or at home, have been experiencing low self-esteem, or you are stuck in a relationship that is no longer serving you. The therapeutic process is a powerful one where you get to work through your emotions and thoughts to see if these thoughts and emotions are in service to you. We believe that these emotions we experience are telling us something about our needs, and rather than not listening to this, we encourage our clients to lean into the experience of feeling. We are here to walk through this process with you and it is our absolute privilege to be engaging in this work with you. Here at Living Within Therapy we work with individuals coping with a variety of issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, eating disorders, and loss to name a few. We use evidence-based approaches, including but not limited to: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy; however, we tailor our approach to meet your needs. In addition, we work with individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds and are LGBTQIA affirming. We work collaboratively with our clients throughout the entire process to ensure your needs are being met. Feedback is imperative within the therapeutic relationship to make sure this is happening for you. Our main objective is to assist you in feeling safe to share your experiences and to discover hope and your strengths within the therapeutic process so that you can connect with yourself and your values. We believe that the client/therapist relationship is the most important component of therapy; therefore, we offer a free fifteen-minute phone consultation to help you determine if we are the right fit. Looking forward to hearing from you in the near future.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Struggling with disordered eating can feel insurmountable as you try to face your biggest trigger many times throughout the day. For many individuals disordered eating and behaviors around food have come to serve as a way to cope with other things going on in their life such as stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, feeling out of control, poor body image or low self-esteem - to name a few. One may binge or over-eat, or one might restrict their food intake or utilize compensatory behaviors such as overexercising, vomiting, and/or laxatives. Many of these strategies feel helpful in the short-term, however, they begin to get in the way of living our life in accordance with our personal values. At Living Within Therapy, we will work as a team with your dietitian to support you in identifying the function of the eating disorder and how to meet your needs with other tools and skills. We utilize evidence-based approaches including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral therapy. Working with these modalities helps you learn coping skills to manage urges to use disordered eating and replace the behaviors with healthy coping skills that allow you to reconnect to your life again. We want to help you work toward creating a meaningful and fulfilling life, not one dictated by food and fear. All of our clinicians can support you with body image issues such as low self-esteem, perfectionism, and unrealistic standards. If you are looking for a therapist who specializes in binging or restricting please see Amber’s page under meet the team for more information. Amber has experience supporting individuals through the recovery process and is here to empower you to fight your eating disorder thoughts and beliefs that get in the way. Please note, if you’re interested in working with Amber, it is a requirement that you are seeing a Registered Dietician that she can coordinate care with. We look forward to empowering you throughout your recovery!</image:caption>

<image:caption>We are constantly evolving and changing throughout our lifetimes. Some of the big life transitions we see here at Living Within Therapy include leaving home and going to college, going through a major break up for the first time, losing friendships as we grow older, aging parents, and getting married. Even though some of these life transitions are beautiful moments, they can still bring us an immense amount of stress. This stress may look like turning away from things that typically bring us joy, feeling stuck, and struggling to make decisions. We will walk alongside you to assist you in learning how to have boundaries with your loved ones, accepting that change is a part of life rather than avoiding these difficult times by engaging in actions that take us further away from who we want to be. We will also assist you in learning how to effectively set goals that are aligned with the kind of person you want to be.</image:caption>

<image:title>Trauma and EMDR - Trauma and EMDR therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Trauma comes in all different shapes and sizes. Perhaps you were recently in a horrific car accident, were recently sexually assaulted, or have a history of childhood abuse; Someone might label any of these events as traumatic, and that is for you to decide and not for anyone else to label that as traumatic for you. Our practice believes in meeting clients where they are at in their healing journey and walking with them through the challenges that may lie in their way. Trauma therapy asks individuals to be vulnerable about the experiences that have left mental and emotional scars on them to find coping mechanisms that feel authentic and helpful in triggering situations. While therapy is a great starting point, the real work stems from an individual's ability to find the strength within to move forward. What Is Trauma? Trauma is caused when there are unresolved feelings attached to a negative experience that may have affected an individual in their life. These feelings can range from shame, anger, despair, guilt, anxiety, or depression; the common factor in all of these is that they are part of a normal reaction and cycle of living through a traumatic experience. Every individual will have a unique reaction to the things that caused their trauma and the things that triggered it. It is up to each person to understand why they feel these things and find out how to move on from their hurt. What Is EMDR Therapy? Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of trauma therapy that asks an individual to reprocess the instances in their life that caused obstructive or limiting beliefs so that any mental blocks can be addressed, validated, and eventually healed. This process involves using eye movements and guided directions from a trained therapist to help restructure an individual's way of thinking and feeling when faced with challenges from the past. The goal is to help the client find a new way of understanding their trauma by taking back any power that the negative experience may have held over them and harnessing that power to create a better path forward. Trauma Therapy Can Help Trauma can live within the body and mind of an individual far past the experience that caused it. It has a way of sticking to the things that are reminders of how that experience changes an individual, and as a result, can lead to someone feeling overwhelmed and isolated in their feelings. Some triggers can cause a person to enter fight, flight, or freeze mode instinctually, while others make an individual want to repress their negative emotions, thoughts, or actions even more. All of our therapists are trauma-informed here at Living Within Therapy. We understand how the past affects the present. Perhaps your current relationships are being impacted by trauma that you have not been able to process from your younger years. We are here to help you get unstuck by learning how to reclaim your power and stay present. A few of our clinicians are trained in different trauma protocols, including Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). If you or a loved one is living through a traumatic experience in their everyday lives, then therapy may be the right choice to find control over what triggers you and move on from your past pain. Trauma cannot be healed overnight, but with the right guidance and support, you can begin to live a life free of the things that have held you back. Please reach out to our office to learn more about our trauma-informed therapy sessions.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Teenagers - Teenagers</image:title>
<image:caption>Being a teenager can be an incredibly difficult time. From navigating friendships, to college applications, to getting along with parents and siblings, there is a lot going on at the same time. We understand it can be a very confusing time and are here to join with you to ensure your needs are being met. Some of the most common concerns we see in our practice with teenagers range from having a hard time focusing in classes, bullying, ADHD and impulse control, getting along with family members, depression and anxiety, grief and loss, to being in a relationship for the first time. We work with our teens to set strong boundaries in their lives to feel more confident and in control of their lives by assisting them in making their own choices. You will learn stress management techniques, one of these techniques being mindfulness to help you stay present with what is happening in the present moment. At Living Within Therapy we specialize in working with teenagers and pride ourselves in being allies of the LGBTQIA+ population as well as neurodiverse clients. We connect in an authentic manner to our teens to understand what the core issues are so that we can assist them in building coping and problem solving skills. We pride ourselves in really hearing you rather than telling you what to do so that you feel empowered. We often involve parents as long as our teens allow as sometimes the issues that teens come in with stem from dysfunctional family dynamics.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Athletes - Athletes</image:title>
<image:caption>Resiliency and “high mental toughness” are two attributes that are usually associated with athletes of all ages. Athletes become accustomed to working under stressful circumstances. We may learn that playing high level sports does not make athletes immune to mental health challenges. Due to the emphasis on appearing physically and mentally fit in the athlete world, it may be difficult for athletes to prioritize their mental health and that can later perpetuate silent suffering and self-isolation. With pressures to perform in the game, as well as in the rest of their public lives, being an athlete can be incredibly challenging for a person’s mental health. Student athletes have additional pressures to maintain, such as their classwork and grades on top of practice and games. It is common for athletes to experience lower levels of self- esteem and sensation-seeking that may lead to risk for depression, anxiety, social anxiety, and negative physical symptoms, all of which may impede performance. Here at Living Within Therapy, we will explore all potential areas of focus for Athlete clients including but not limited to; perfectionism, burnout, interpersonal needs, injury, vulnerabilities, self-identity, adjustment after sports, and depression and anxiety. Signs of depression in athletes may include; difficulty concentrating or a lack of confidence or motivation, decreases in energy or feelings of chronic fatigue, changes in sleep, eating patterns, or appetite, a short temper or excessive irritability, drug or alcohol use, loss of interest in activities that once provided pleasure. Signs of anxiety disorders in athletes may include; apprehensiveness, feelings of powerlessness, a sense of doom, panic, or impending danger, tiredness or weakness, rapid breathing, and sweating or trembling. When athletes get hurt, they receive time to heal. Here at Living Within Therapy, we allow athletes to heal from the injuries that are not visible. Seeking help from a provider at Living Within Therapy can help athletes on and off the field. This may help athletes to process their experiences and find healthy coping skills to manage the stress and pressure that comes with their position. If this sounds like you or a loved one, reaching out for a higher level of support is the first step to allow a more balanced life outside of the athletic identity.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Couples - Couples</image:title>
<image:caption>Couples go through challenges during different points in the relationship. These challenges can look like moving in together for the first time, having their first child, parenting differences, children leaving the home, intimacy issues, infidelity issues, and communication issues, just to name a few. Here at Living Within Therapy we see all kinds of couples, even couples who report they have a good relationship and need some extra support to iron out a few differences they are currently facing. We also see couples who are wanting to engage in some work before they get married to discuss some of the more important conversations such as parenting, children, and finances. Our approach to couples counseling is practical and efficient. We often like to set agendas at the beginning of our sessions to ensure both parties are heard. We will explore long- standing patterns in the relationship and teach you conflict resolution and communication skills. We can help navigate each individual's unmet needs in order to create a deeper understanding of the relationship dynamics. We will also assist in creating new problem-solving techniques that lead to areas of compromise and understanding as well as give tools to help rebuild trust and admiration for your partner. It should be noted that we meet with each person separately at the beginning of our work together to do some further assessment as couple’s therapy may not be the best treatment at the time. Instead, we might recommend individual therapy to begin and then once some healing has taken place we would then start couple’s therapy. Please be sure to tell your therapist if you are experiencing any kind of abuse in your relationship. Our goal is your goal, and sometimes couple’s therapy might look like navigating separation peacefully which we can help you with as well.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Grief and Loss - Grief and Loss</image:title>
<image:caption>In common media we often hear about the “five stages of grief” but grief looks different for everyone. There is no moving through stages and then you are done. Grief tends to weigh heavily on our hearts throughout our lifetimes, and that is okay. Grief will also feel harder some days and will feel lighter on others. In therapy we will hold space for you to process the loss of your loved one(s). To miss someone is to have had the privilege of loving someone so deeply and we are honored to hear about your people’s lives. We believe in the idea of moving forward with the love you feel for that person rather than moving on, as we are sometimes told to do. Sometimes we also might see where someone feels a sense of relief when someone passes due to the nature of the relationship that was once had with them, which is perfectly normal as well. It should also be noted that grief is not only marked by the passing of a loved one but can take place after any kind of loss. Examples of this loss may be a job, pet or a divorce. Sometimes the loss can be a positive thing for people but can trigger uncomfortable feelings that are important to be felt in the moment as our feelings are often messengers of something bigger than the moment. Your feelings will fluctuate and that is something that all of us have experience in working with here at Living Within Therapy. Anticipatory grief is also something commonly experienced. This most often shows up when someone is diagnosed with a chronic illness such as cancer. A cancer diagnosis can affect the mental health of the patient and their families and friends. You might be struggling with ideas around your own mortality or feel confused about how to process the potential loss of a loved one that is still alive. Sometimes your feelings and reactions might not make sense to you or you might experience fears that are entirely new. We are here to support you throughout this difficult time whether you or someone you know has just been diagnosed, is in treatment, is in remission, or has died.</image:caption>

      <image:title>TEST PAGE Depression (Copy) - Depression</image:title>
<image:caption>Are you feeling overwhelmed, persistently sad, or struggling to find joy in the things you once loved? You are not alone. Depression can affect anyone, but it doesn’t have to define your life. Our dedicated team is here to help you reclaim your sense of purpose, happiness, and inner strength through personalized depression therapy. What is Depression? Depression is more than just feeling down or having a bad day. It’s a profound and often debilitating condition that can impact every aspect of your life—emotionally, physically, and mentally. Because depression causes an individual to feel deeper levels of sadness or hopelessness, it can be easy for them to lose sight of the things that bring them joy and relief. Depression is commonly known as the silent killer, as many people suffer from it, but not many are given the opportunity or space to understand where their depression may be stemming from and how it affects their everyday lives. While every person will experience depression symptoms differently, some recurrent symptoms include: ● persistent sadness ● loss of interest in activities ● changes in appetite and sleep patterns ● feelings of hopelessness or worthlessness.</image:caption>
